Taylor Smith is a visual artist based in Paris, France working across the media of painting, printmaking and glassblowing. She received a B.F.A. in Painting and a B.A. in Art History from Boston University in 2015 and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Her work is presented as a series titled Organic Abstractions in which she paints, sews and glues a never-ending list of new and recycled materials including paper towels, plastic bags, metal leaf and pigment powder onto her ever-evolving canvases. Through this energetic process of destruction and renewal, she aims to create a series of whimsical "fantasy-scapes" where the laws of nature and how we see the world are deconstructed and re-combined in new and interesting ways. These fantastical landscapes reveal an attempt to reconcile natural, man-made and imaginary forms, addressing humans' insatiable desire to change and "perfect" the world around them.
